Fifty Years, Fifty States

This year I have a big birthday approaching, the big five zero, fifty, 50 and what better way to celebrate than to take a motorcycle ride through all fifty states.

In all actuality it will be more likely the lower forty-eight for this trip. I just feel that Alaska is a trip all in its own, my husband travels to Hawaii every so often for work, next trip I can tag along and rent a motorcycle. I am going to try for all fifty this year, but if not, I would be content with the lower forty-eight, until I can add Alaska and Hawaii.

I thought about doing the lower forty-eight in 2018, when I was forty-eight, but at the time I would have taken the trip on the Low Rider. I just couldn’t see me doing that many miles on it. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Low Rider, and so far, it’s taken me through eleven states, but it’s really not all that comfortable compared to the trike. Pegs vs Floorboards and such!

I mentioned to my husband a few months ago that I was doing this and invited him along. At the time he wasn’t sure he would be able to take the time off from work. Either way I was going on this trip with him or without him. We couldn’t believe how many of our family members were against me traveling alone. My seventy-four-year-old mom told me that she would go with me (on the trike) just so I wouldn’t be alone. My mom with hip and knee problems every day on a motorcycle, I couldn’t see it. I finally had to tell everyone I’m a grown-ass woman and I can do it alone.

Bryan can take off four weeks of vacation time for this coming summer. If by chance we don’t finish in four weeks, Bryan will return to Colorado Springs and I will continue alone… I’m a grown ass woman! I don’t want to rush this trip and there are many scenic routes and places I would like to see a long way.

The ride planning has started. Some states, I’ve been there and done that, I’m not spending much time in those places, just riding through. As of today, (early January) I have planned the route through the following states, totaling 3,592 miles:

Colorado
Texas
Oklahoma
Arkansas
Louisiana
Mississippi
Alabama
Florida
Georgia
South Carolina
North Carolina
Tennessee
Virginia
Kentucky
West Virginia
Maryland
Washington DC
Delaware
Pennsylvania
New Jersey
New York
Connecticut
Rhode Island
Massachusetts
New Hampshire
Maine

I’m pretty excited about this trip. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do on a motorcycle and didn’t want to put off anymore. Now is the right time. I’ll make sure to keep you all updated on upcoming route planning and such. - Jovita
