Books from the Backlog: City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

Books from the Backlog is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your bookshelf or e-reader unread.  If you would like to join in, please feel free to enter your link at Carole’s Random Life, then spend some time visiting some of the other posts.

This week's neglected book:

City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
Series: The Mortal Instruments #6
Hardcover, 725 pages
Published May 27th, 2014
by Margaret K. McElderry Books

Shadowhunters and demons square off for the final showdown in the spellbinding, seductive conclusion to the #1 New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments series.

Darkness has descended on the Shadowhunter world. Chaos and destruction overwhelm the Nephilim as Clary, Jace, Simon, and their friends band together to fight the greatest evil they have ever faced: Clary’s own brother. Sebastian Morgenstern is on the move, systematically turning Shadowhunter against Shadowhunter. Bearing the Infernal Cup, he transforms Shadowhunters into creatures of nightmare, tearing apart families and lovers as the ranks of his Endarkened army swell. Nothing in this world can defeat Sebastian—but if they journey to the realm of demons, they just might have a chance…

Lives will be lost, love sacrificed, and the whole world will change. Who will survive the explosive sixth and final installment of the Mortal Instruments series?

Why did I add City of Heavenly Fire to my bookshelf?

I read all the previous books in The Moral Instrument Series, of course I had to purchase the last book. I should have read it in 2014, when the previous books where somewhat fresh in my mind. I really want to finish this series, but at this time I do not want to read the previous books once again. I may have to visit Recaptains, for a refresher of books one through five.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book/series? Would you recommend it to others?

  1. I read some of the first one and stopped. I just felt too much had been taken from things like Buffy and Harry Potter that I didn't want to finish it! But a lot of people did enjoy it and I'm glad that you're still liking the series.

    1. I've never read Harry Potter (gasp) or read Buffy, but I did see all the Buffy episodes and enjoyed them. I'm waiting on the last book in her third series to come out. After that one I'm taking a break from Cassandra Clare. Sorry the first book didn't workout for you.

  2. I have bought almost all of the books in this series. I read the first one several years ago but have never moved on. I always feel like I need to do a re-read anytime I wait too long before continuing with a series. I do hope you enjoy this one when you get the chance to read it!

    1. Yes, I have read the first book four times... and so on with the other books. I feel like I have to read them all over again just so I can remember what happened in previous books. Thanks Carole, I do hope I enjoy it, once I get around to reading it.

  3. I read books one through three right away and loved them, but then book four was meh for me so I didn't keep going.
I know the feeling about not wanting a big re-read binge. I've been pondering it about another series. The ReCaptains sounds like a good solution. :)

    1. I'm so glad I found The ReCaptains site, it has been very helpful in the past. I also enjoyed the previous books, so hopefully I this one will not disappoint.

  4. You have to read it! Have you started the dark artifices? Every book in the Mortal Instruments and Dark Artifices I have read. I just love it and I can't wait for Queen of Air and Darkness. Add that to your Christmas wishlist if you haven't.

    1. I do have the first two books of Dark Artifices, I haven't read those yet because I haven't finished this book...lol I do plan on purchasing the third book also, hopefully it wouldn't take me forever to get to that series. Have a wonderful day Jackie.

  5. I am not familiar with Recaptions, but I will have to check it out more closely. I am not a big re-reader but sometimes I wish I was because of the time I take to get to later books in a series.

I have only read one in the Mortal Instruments series. I haven't decided if I want to read more. Someday maybe. :-)

    1. I'm so happy that another reader mentioned Recaptions in the past. I went through some of the series they had listed just to familiarize myself with the site. I think it will be helpful for me when I do read this last book.
Have a wonderful day and thank you for visiting.
