Compulsive Stamp Shopper

Peek Over (Inky Antics) is another stamp that I’ve had for sometime but never used. I know I’ve mentioned this before and probably sound like a broken record, I have a bunch of stamps that have never been inked.

Currently I have a stack of never used Inky Antics sitting on top of Jakes dog crate and another stack of Penny Black, Great Impressions, and Sarah Kay on my desk. Oh my gosh, my cabinets… in my cabinets, I have acrylic trays with more Inky Antics, Happy Hoppers, House Mouse, Gruffies, Great Impressions and other wood mounts that haven’t been used. And if that’s not enough, I have drawers with remounted Stampin’ Up, The Angel Company and Close to My Heart stamps.

One snowy day I’m going to go through all my stamps, pull out the never inked ones, put those in a special place and make myself use those. I’m going to have to set some kind of goal/challenge for myself to quit buying. I’m sure Bryan will be thrilled… ugh! Am I the only with this problem?!

Okay, back to the card. The layout for this card came from Splitcoast Sketch Challenge 196. I made my card 4.5 x 4.5, so I could use this image since it’s a bit smaller. All the cardstock and designer paper is from the Caprice Reflection Kit (Close to My Heart), Caprice is easily turning into my favorite designer paper. I better get stamping using those unused stamps (wink), thanks for visiting ~ Jovi

Stamps: Peek Over (Inky Antics) ~ Ink: Black Pigment Ink (Colorbox) ~ Paper: Watercolor, Crystal Blue (CTMH), Chocolate (CTMH), Caprice (CTMH - Reflection Kit) ~ Other: Iridescent Embossing Powder (SU), Crystal Blue Brads (CTMH), Brown Dotted Organdy (Offray), Tombow Markers, Close to My Heart Markers, Tombow Colorless Blender

Sarah Kay

Here she is… my first card made using a Sarah Kay stamp, the image is My Sweet Lili and isn’t she just precious?

The layout for this card started off as Stamp with Stampavie challenge, previous Stamp with Sarah Kay. They changed the name of the challenge blog to include all the other wonderful stamps from Stampavie and they post a new challenge every Wednesday. I started using the layout for Challenge 14, once I had my image cut and colored the bottom scallop section wouldn’t fit on the card… in the end I was only able to do half the sketch. Oh well, maybe next time.

I colored the image using Prismacolor Pencils blended with Gamsol, I had to make sure my pencils and stumps were sharpened to fit in the smaller areas of the image. Next time I use the image I going emboss the image and then use markers and a blender to color it, hopefully that will help get the color spread in the smaller areas. All the cardstock and patterned paper is from Close to My Hearts Reflection Kit, Everlasting.

Sarah Kay stamps are a bit pricey for one acrylic stamp (at least I think so), they do leave a clean crisp image, come easily clean and are very durable for an acrylic.

Have a great day and thanks for visiting ~ Jovi

Stamps: My Sweet Lili (Sarah Kay) ~ Ink: Noir (Palette) ~ Paper: Cream, Cranberry (CTMH), Ponderosa Pine (CTMH), Desert Sand (CTMH), Everlasting (CTMH – Reflection Kit) ~ Other: Sahara Sand Brads (SU), Cranberry Grosgrain (CTMH), Scallop Edge Punch (SU), Prismacolor Pencils, Gamsol

Penny Black 20

Today’s Penny Black Saturday Challenge is Challenge 20 – Bump in the Night! Since Halloween is coming up we would like to see your Spooky creations, just remember to use at least one Penny Black image.

For this challenge I used the image Dressed to Scare. It is one of my newer PB stamps and I’ve been patiently waiting to use it for this challenge. I embossed the image using Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder from Stampin Up… it’s really sparkly. The ribbon is tied using Black and Pansy Purple Organdy Ribbon, the photo doesn’t show the Pansy Purple very well.

I just wanted to let you all know that this Penny Black Challenge is going to be my last challenge as a Design Team member. A couple months ago I decided that I was going to start cutting back on some of my commitments to spend more time with family and to enjoy doing the things that I love. I have since stopped moderating at Splitcoast, stopped moderating at The Shack and I’ve also quit doing design work. I did stay on with the PBSC Design Team because I enjoy stamping and thought I could manage that. Well, my kiddos have been keeping me busy with their activity schedules and I have since volunteered to be on a couple committees… now it’s time to leave the PBSC design team. I’m going to try to play along in the challenges whenever I can and I’m so thankful that Tracy and Tracie gave me this wonderful opportunity… I’ve totally enjoyed it.

Would you like to join the gang of designers over at The Penny Black Saturday Challenge? Here’s your chance, they are looking to add to their Design Team. If you’re interested in joining the team all you have to do is leave a comment along with a link to your work on today’s challenge post, at the end of the comment type in “DT”. You have until 11pm next Thursday (30 October).

Thanks for visiting and enjoy your weekend ~ Jovi

Stamps: Dressed to Scare (Penny Black) ~ Ink: Black Pigment Ink (Colorbox) ~ Paper: Watercolor, Black, Pansy Purple (CTMH), Hallowhimsy Designer Paper (Imaginisce) ~ Other: Iridescent Embossing Powder (SU), Eye of Newton Brads (Imaginisce), Ticket Corner Punch (SU), Black Organdy (CTMH), Pansy Purple Organdy (CTMH), Pop Dots, Close to My Heart Markers, Tombow Markers, Tombow Colorless Blender

Make a Wish

Good thing Austin doesn’t mind getting a House Mouse card made by his mother on his birthday. One day he’ll no longer want those little mice, hedgies or bunny cards… I’m just glad he likes enjoys them now (so he says)!

I added Liquid Appliqué (LA) to the cupcake for frosting. I’ve discovered that if I heat the LA from the backside it doesn’t puff up as crazy… I also had my cardstock smokin’ so don’t leave your heat gun in one spot very long. Before heating the LA I added gold micro beads to the LA… I think they look like little candy sprinkles. After heating the LA I pushed the beads down into the LA to keep them in place.

The image is Make a Wish 02, it’s the smaller version of the original Make a Wish which I think is no longer available. The designer paper is from Close to My Hearts Reflection Kit Good Times… I just love those colors, Buttercup, Chocolate, and Twilight. Instead of using the Chocolate cardstock from CTMH, I used Walnut from Bazzill.

Thanks for visiting ~ Jovi

Stamps: Make a Wish 02 (House Mouse – Stampabilities) ~ Ink: Noir (Palette) ~ Paper: White (Papertrey), Buttercup (CTMH), Walnut (Bazzill), Good Times (CTMH – Reflection Kit) ~ Other: Ticket Corner Punch (SU), Gold Micro Beads, White Liquid Appliqué, Pebbles Chalk, Paper Piercer, Gold Bitty Brads (CTMH), Twill Ribbon (CTMH), Prismacolor Pencils, Gamsol

Penny Black 19

Today’s Penny Black Saturday Challenge is Challenge 19 – Artist Trading Card(ATC)… the rules for this challenge are to use ATC measurements 2.5 x 3.5 inches, can be made Portrait or Landscape, and must contain at least one Penny Black image.

When I first saw this challenge listed I wasn’t all that sure about making an Artist Trading Card. Since I have never made one I was clueless about them… I didn’t know the size, if they had a fold, or if they could have layers. To be honest, whenever an ATC swap would come about I would avoid them because I just didn’t understand what the big deal was with them. I knew that ATC’s are very popular to trade but I just didn’t get the whole craze of collecting these little 2.5 x 3.5 inch cards.

I have to give a big thank you to the ladies of the Stampers Unite Yahoo Group for helping me see the light about ATCs and for providing the measurements and templates for getting the most ATCs out of a 12 x 12 piece of cardstock. Now that I made my first ATC, I can understand why these little beauties are so fun to make and collect. I will longer avoid ATC swaps.

Since the images in the Penny Black Transparent sets are smaller than the original wood mount images most of them are the perfect size for ATCs. I used the image Marching Mouse from the Critter Party Transparent set. I did discover that the smaller images are a bit tougher to color using Prismacolor Pencils (blended with Gamsol). I had difficulties blending the small areas because my blending stump wasn’t very pointy. I’m glad I gave ATCs a try and I’m looking forward to making more.

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful weekend ~ Jovi

Stamps: Marching Mouse from Critter Party (Transparent – Penny Black) ~ Ink: Noir (Palette) ~ Paper: White (Papertrey), Taffy (CTMH), Chocolate (CTMH), Petal Patch (SU) ~ Other: Diamond Stickles (Ranger), Bitty Brads (CTMH), Paper Flowers (CTMH), Nestabilities Oval & Scallop Dies, Fiskars Scallop Blade, Sandpaper, Gamsol, Prismacolor Pencils

I’m not much of pumpkin pie eater, sure every so often I’ll have a slice… but I’m more of an apple pie kind of gal. The image is Pumpkin Pie and it's the Stamp of the Month for October, it was too cute not to get.

The background paper is from Imagine That, I picked it up last autumn… do you believe I found it at WalMart? That pattern is one of five or so that all coordinated and came in a pack with matching ribbon and buttons. Next time I use this image, I’m going to color the pie a little deeper with less white showing, in the photo it doesn’t look very pumpkin-ish.

Stamps: Pumpkin Pie (House Mouse – Stampabilities), The Good Life (TAC) ~ Ink: Noir Palette ~ Paper: White (Papertrey), Sunflower (CTMH), Pumpkin Pie (SU), Designer Paper – Imagine That ~ Other: Antique Bitty Brads (CTMH), Ribbon Twill (CTMH), Scalloped Edge Punch (SU), Ticket Corner Punch (SU), Prismacolor Pencils, Gamsol

Fun Video

Bryan sent this to me in an email and I had such a great laugh I just had to pass it along… make sure you have your computer volume turned on. Oh and let me know if you get a big laugh as I did… Enjoy ~ Jovi

Oh yes and you might want to keep the small children away... sorry about that. Since my kiddos are older I forgot about the little one's.

Penny Black 18

It’s Saturday… and this week’s Penny Black Saturday Challenge is Challenge 18 – Thanks a Bunch. For those of you that take part in the challenge, it’s entirely up to you what to make… card, atc, altered item, etc. as long as you use one Penny Black image. This week our sponsor, Tinker & Co has generously donated a download to one lucky winner. For a chance to win, all you have to do is leave a comment over at PBSC Blog with the link to your work and your name will be added to the draw. The winner will be announced next Saturday on the PBSC Blog.

The image I used for this challenge is Hedgehog Joy and the sentiment is from Stampin' Up's Love Ya Bunches set. I just knew I had a “thanks a bunch” stamp that I wanted to use but I couldn’t remember which stamp set it was in… finally I found it! I used a distresser tool around all the Petal cardstock, which has a white center core. You can’t tell from the photo but I added light green Pebbles Chalk around the image and across the sentiment… it softens the white cardstock.

I’m looking forward to seeing the fabulous “thanks a bunch” cards… after visiting all the great blogs my Penny Black wish list has grown. Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful weekend creating ~ Jovi

Stamps: Hedgehog Joy (Penny Black), Love Ya Bunches (SU) ~ Ink: Noir Palette ~ Paper: White (Papertrey), Petal (CTMH), Buttercup (CTMH), Paper Garden Reflection Kit (CTMH) ~ Other: Celery Grosgrain (SU), Whisper White Eyelets (SU), Pebbles Chalk, Edge Distresser, Crystal Stickles, Prismacolor Pencil, Gamsol

Oh So Scary!

What a scary little kitty… must be those vicious teeth on the bag! The image is Brown Bag Monster from Penny Black and I colored it using Prismacolor Pencil blended with Gamsol. I also used my new Ticket Corner punch from Stampin Up… so I’m a little behind in buying the latest and greatest accessories that come available! Again the Halloween patterned paper is from Imaginisce, Hallowhimsy Collection.

Yippee I have Sarah Kay stamps coming my way… I just received my “has been shipped” notice from Sweet n Sassy Stamps and I had just placed my order yesterday am. I was originally planning on ordering though 7 Kids, when I finally narrowed down my list the stamps I wanted they were “out of stock”… and then I checked 7 Kids this afternoon and she had them “in stock”…ugh! Guess what? I just place an order through 7 Kids for more Sarah Kay stamps. Those two orders of Sarah Kay should hold me over for awhile.

Thanks for visiting ~ Jovi

08 MSR BCA Ride

Yesterday, Mountain Shadow Riders (MSR) sponsored its 8th annual Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Ride and once again it was a huge success with a great turnout. In 2007 MSR donated $10,000 to the Colorado Springs Affiliate of the Susan G. Koman Foundation, this year… I’ll keep you posted on the amount raised! The ride ended at Indigo Joes for a BBQ buffet, raffle drawings and bidding on auction items that were generous donated.

It was a wonderful day filled with a lot of laughs and smiles ~ Jovi

Penny Black 17

This week’s Penny Black Saturday Challenge is a sketch, (yippee)… Challenge 17 ~ Sketch #3. This week the PBSC team has another fabulous stamp to give away, generously donated by our sponsor Sir Stampalot. For a chance to win, all you have to do is leave a comment over at PBSC Blog with the link to your work and your name will be added to the draw. The winner will be announced next Saturday on the PBSC Blog.

Do you have designer paper in your collection that you hoard? The designer paper that I used for this card, Petal Patch, from Stampin Up is one that I try not to use very often. It just bothers me to use it because I only have a few sheets of it left and it hasn’t been available through Stampin Up for a few years. I had to convince myself that it coordinated so well with the dusty blue blossoms it had to be use for this card!

The hedgie image is Buzz in the Air and the round Thank You is from Close to My Hearts “T” Solo set. I added White Fun Flock to the center of the flower and then added another layer of flock to give the flower center a bit more dimension. (click on image for a larger view).

If you have a chance, come and join in the fun this week and I’ll be looking forward to seeing all the wonderful Penny Black creations. Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful weekend. ~ Jovi

Stamps: Buzz in the Air (Penny Black), “T” Solo (CTMH) ~ Ink: Noir (Palette) ~ Paper: White (Papertrey), Bashful Blue (SU), Petal Patch Designer Paper (SU) ~ Other: Various Circle Punches (SU, EK Success, Marvy), Sizzlits Swirly Die, Dusty Blue Small Blossoms, White Fun Flock, Stardust Gelly Pen (Sakura), White Eyelets (CTMH)

I came across this blog (Stamp with Sarah Kay) that is dedicated to Sarah Kay stamps and every Wednesday a new sketch challenge is posted. Since I don’t have any Sarah Kay stamps I haven’t been able to “officially” play along with them.

After going through all the gorgeous cards made using Sarah Kay stamps… I have to get me some and I found that 7 Kids College Fund has a great selection. I’ve also heard wonderful things about 7 Kids and once I narrow down my list... yes, I have to budget myself because Bryan would freak if I ordered every Sarah Kay that I have picked out... I'll be ordering from 7 Kids.

For this card I borrowed one of the Stamp with Sarah Kay sketches, I used Challenge #12. The image is Pup-o-latern from Penny Black stamps. If you have a chance or you're looking for inspiration hop on over and check out the other challenges posted, you wouldn't be disappointed!

Thanks for visiting ~ Jovi
