Surprise Party with Mice

I’m really happy with this year’s House Mouse Stamp of the Month (SOTM) collection, all the stamps are wonderful. In the past years I’ve usually only ordered about four of five SOTM stamps from the collection. Each month I get really excited when I get that “Your Stamps Have Shipped” email from Dick at HM Stamps.

This stamp is Surprise Party and it is the SOTM for May. I used Spring Iris, Key Lime, and Hollyhock cardstock… very springy colors (all from Close to My Heart) and Pocket Full of Posies (DCWV) designer paper… love the glitter. I added Frosted Lace Stickles to the top of the party hat and Diamond Stickles to the other areas of the party hat… you can never have too much sparkle!

Today was my first day out and about. I took Jake to the groomers… he looks so handsome. I had lunch with my sister at Red Robin’s… I got totally sick afterwards (I’ll save you all from the gory details (wink)). I wasn’t sure if the sickness was from the food or from my surgery! Tonight I’m pretty exhausted but I did want to get this card posted before going to bed. Enjoy and thanks for reading ~ Jovi

Lazy Days

Lazy Days… I’m having quite a few of those! It’s actually been pretty dull since I can’t do any heavy lifting or strenuous activities. This weekend, while Bryan and Riley were out enjoying their day riding, Austin and I were stuck at home. Austin wasn’t feeling all that great, he had a low grade temp and came home early from school Friday. Austin and I spent our time together watching movies… all three Shrek movies, Transformers, and Wild Hogs…there was no way I could talk him into watching Pride and Prejudice.

Today I had a chance to stamp and this is the card I made. A great stamping friend Tracey (SCS racey) and I recently swapped images and this is one she sent me, Lazy Days from Penny Black. What happen to me not swapping stamped images? Let me explain… I made a decision at the beginning of the year not to stamp image requests anymore. I was getting emails and private messages weekly from ladies wanting images stamped for them. Some ladies asked for a few while others requested more than 50… I stamped and sent images to anyone who asked. After awhile I was spending my free time stamping images for ladies instead of stamping for myself… that’s when I decided not to do anymore image requests. Now I’ll only send to ladies from our Yahoo Group and Tracey. I hope you all understand and don’t think I totally mean for not sending images to those of you that requested some recently.

The “Just sitting around…” sentiment is from Inky Antics. The Heavenly Blue and Blush cardstock is from Close to My Heart and the pattern paper is from DCWV Stack Pocket Full of Posies. I’m going to have to make another card using this image since I messed up this one. Can you find my mistake? Thanks for reading ~ Jovi

Update on Surgery

I’m alive and really sore! I made it home Thursday night about 6:00 pm. I had to stay a little longer at the hospital then planned since the general anesthetic made me really sick, which has happened with past surgeries I had. The anesthesiologist gave me some medicine through my IV before waking me up to help with the nausea and then I received more while in recovery. I still wasn’t feeling all that great when I made it home. Between walking and eating crackers I did get sick a few times. I haven’t gotten much sleep the last two nights. Its terrible trying to get comfortable, I usually sleep on my stomach or side and that isn’t working out too great. Thank goodness for pain medication!

After my surgery my doctor showed me my gallstones. One was a bit larger than a marble and the rest were raisin size. The recovery nurses were really surprised that I wasn’t in more pain before my surgery because of the amount I had. It was a bit comical watching the nurses pass my container of gallstones around for everyone to check out.

Thank you for all the comments and emails wishing me well, I really appreciate it. ~ Jovi

Rides and Going Postal!

I’ve been trying to get in as much riding as I can before my surgery and the weather has been beautiful. Last week I took my sister down my favorite local route (east of Colorado Springs – down Curtis to Marksheffel). When I first starting riding I would ride that route almost daily… it’s wide open and not much traffic. She did great and hopefully she’ll be ready to go onto busier roads and longer rides soon.

Saturday I meet up with some riding buddies. Our plan was to ride to Castle Rock via Hwy 83 then back to Colorado Springs on Hwy 105. We got a late start and had to come back early because a couple of us had late afternoon plans. Even though we didn’t make it all the way to Castle Rock, it was a great day with the girls!

On Sunday I went riding with Bryan & Riley. We recently bought Riley a new helmet and she has been so excited to wear it on a ride with her dad. On our ride we took Hwy 24 to N. Elbert Rd (41), then onto Hwy 86 to Castle Rock and then back to Colorado Springs on Hwy 105. It was about a 120 miles and we had some strong winds through Castle Rock… I hate riding in the wind!

While we were out riding we stopped at a few (actually five) Post Offices to get pictures. Why Post Offices? Because Mountain Shadow Riders just started its annual ride contest and this year’s contest is “Going Postal”. We have to get a picture of our motorcycle in front of a Post Office’s and our postal photo must have the name of the branch in the photo. We also have to find the zip code for that Post Office if it’s not displayed on the building. Why the zip code? The zip code is our point value. In my opinion Sunday’s are the best day to get postal pictures… since they’re closed and I wouldn’t have to maneuver my bike around parked cars to get a picture with the needed information. Here are a couple of Going Postal pictures that we snapped along the way.

MSR Open House

Mountain Shadow Riders recently had an Open House / Membership Drive at Apex Sports and we had a great time. We signed up a few new members, sold a bunch of Hot Dogs, Brats and Burgers, raised over $400 that will go towards funding MSR’s 8th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Ride.

Next month we’ll be at Rocky Mountain Cycles for another Open House / Membership Drive. Here are a few pictures to share from the Apex Open House.

Carolee took a picture of me taking a picture of her… we’re a crazy bunch!

Oh look at the new Spyder that a MSR member recently purchased… it’s not a Harley, but it’s still pretty cool! (click on photos for larger view)

Thanks for visting ~ Jovi

It’s official… I have a gall bladder!

It’s been a busy couple of weeks and I have a lot to update… I’ll try to make multiple posts throughout the day!

I had my ultrasound last week and apparently I do have a gall bladder which is packed with gall stones. Last Tuesday I had an appointment with the surgeon and we scheduled my surgery for this Thursday (the day after tomorrow). It will be an out-patient surgery and if everything goes well I’ll be home that afternoon. I'll be having laparoscopic surgery, which only requires about four small incisions and hopefully I’ll be able to return to normal activity in a week or two.

Since I wouldn’t be going to the gym or riding, I’m sure I will get a lot of cards made!

My sister received her “M” endorsement!

My sister received her “M” endorsement… yippee! Back in February I attended a Harley Davidson’s Garage Party, a woman only event that offers basic information geared mainly to non riders. I signed up for the Garage Party to see the proper technique on how to pick up a dropped bike… I also signed up my sister to come along with me. It was a lot of fun and we meet some really nice ladies. At the Garage Party, Pikes Peak Harley Davidson offered any of the ladies attending the Garage Party to take the Riders Edge Course for $99… great deal! My sister signed up that day, she took her Rider’s Edge Course last week, passed and received her “M” endorsement on her Colorado Driver License on Friday.

One of the ladies we met at the Garage Party (Bernadette) told my sister about a motorcycle that was for sale, a 2001 Harley Davidson 883 Sportster with only 400+ miles, firm asking price of $5500. I went along with my sister, brother in law and Bernadette to see the bike. It was a pretty maroon color and the body was in great condition, except it has been stored for few years… the lady who was selling it developed knee problems and she wasn’t able to ride it. After my sister talked it over with her husband they decided not to purchase it because of any potential problems that may occur from it being stored that long.

On the way home we stopped in at Colorado Springs Harley Davidson and looked at some of the new motorcycles they had. Mike (the sales guy that helped Bryan) remembered that my sister was looking for a blue Sportster… they just happen to have one that came in a couple days before. He took us in the back and it was still wrapped in the protective covering. Once my sister pulled off the covering she fell in love with it right away. She ended up purchasing it that night. Since Bryan bought his bike there and I brought my sister in to buy a bike, I received a $100 gift card from Harley Davidson… how cool is that? These are a few pictures of her bike that I took yesterday. It’s a 08 Dark Blue Pearl 883L Sportster with the windshield and engine guard already installed. She hasn’t moved it out of the garage since she brought it home Saturday night… hopefully she’ll feel like riding it soon!

Another good thing… Jake and I are both down 15 lbs! Here is a refresher about Jake’s Vet putting him on a restricted diet.

I promise I’ll have some stamping to share soon, I haven’t stamped for about three weeks and I really need to get caught up on some projects. Thanks for reading ~ Jovi

Spring Break

It’s been a busy and emotional couple of weeks. Riley and Austin were/are off for their two week Spring Break and we spent time visiting my parents in Wyoming. Riley and Austin had a wonderful time… grandma and grandpa enjoys spoiling them. Jake also had a great time running the acreage with my parents bilingual Pomeranian Titto.

After coming back from Wyoming I packed again for a quick trip to New Mexico. Bryan took some time off and stayed home with the kids. My aunt Mary is terribly ill, I wanted to spend time with her and visit my grandma again. My mom and my two brothers met me and my sister in New Mexico and since I have another brother who lives there it was great having us all together again.

My aunt was in and out of hospitals most of last year, she saw specialist in Denver, Santa Fe and Albuquerque and each doctor ran a number of tests and prescribed her different medicines. Then in January she was extremely sick went to the ER and they flew her to Santa Fe in a helicopter (from Las Vegas, NM a $22,000 ride)… did more tests and she was diagnosed with Cirrhosis, the doctor told her and my uncle that she had about four months to be with her family. When I saw her last Friday she was feeling good and coherent and then on Sunday she was really sick… vomiting and shaking, it was horrible seeing her that way. She has been bed ridden since January, my uncle and the Hospice nurses do everything for her. It was really sad when we left to come home. I talked to my uncle this morning and he said that she wasn’t having a very good day today.
