Bunny Boo Boo

I joined a House Mouse group (Best of House Mouse) when my obsession began with these little critters. The group is filled with many talented members, one in particular is Joe Nathan. Many of you may have heard of Joe or seen his work in countless publications. You can see Joe’s inspiring creations at on his website, Lighthouse Scenic Art.

Joe’s wife Suma, was recently diagnosed with Cervical Cancer which spread to a few of her lymph nodes. She is now at home recovering, until they go onto the next step. Suma is a House Mouse lover and I thought I would send her this card just to let her know that I was thinking about her. When I return from vacation, I’ll be sending her a more cheerful House Mouse card.

I’ve always liked the word Serendipity (the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for; also : an instance of this). I think one day when I get a wild hair I’m going to change my blog name to Serendipity!

When I logged onto ASB this morning to check out Trudy’s Sketch Challenge, I had to laugh when I saw the sketch for today’s challenge. It was almost the same layout that I used yesterday afternoon to make my (IRL color) Titmouse card… talk about coincidence. What’s really strange… the card that inspired Trudy for her for sketch is one that I’ve never seen! It makes you wonderful if some cards are actually CASED or was it just serendipitous!

The first card is the one I did yesterday, a Tuft Titmouse. I made sure I went to Wild Bird Centers of America website to make sure I colored him the correct color… I didn’t want to anger my friends who are really into birds. Thanks Deb for providing me with the link. Tuft Titmouse Card: Stamps: All Things of Nature (TAC) ~ Ink: Noir Palette ~ Paper: Bashful Blue (SU), White, Pocket Full of Posies (DCWV), Heavenly Blue Gingham (CTMH) ~ Other: Diamond Stickles, Baby Blue Ribbon, White Organdy Ribbon, Prismacolor Pencils & Gamsol

The second card, I made for the Sketch Challenge, Sketch #63. I also colored this hummingbird the same color as Anna’s Hummingbird. I'm really enjoying making cards with this set. Anna’s Hummingbird Card: Stamps: All Things of Nature (TAC) ~ Ink: Noir Palette ~ Paper: White & Juneberry (both Bazzill), Genevieve Patterned Paper (TAC) ~ Other: White Photo Hanger, Purple Grosgrain, Diamond Stickles, Prismacolor Pencils & Gamsol

Did you happen to notice my new Butterfly Watermark that Dina made me (click on the photos to get a larger view)? If you love butterflies, you’re going to love Dina’s newest watermarks. Dina’s watermark (the one in my pictures) was inspired by a card that Nicole Heady made using her new stamps set Butterfly Kisses (another set added to my growing list).

Thanks for reading ~

Chirp, Chirp, Chirp…

When I made this card I had no idea what kind of bird this was or what color he is IRL, so I colored him to match my cardstock. Thanks to Karen, Deb and all the wonderful ladies at ASB, I since found out that this little birdie is a Titmouse.

The little bird is from the set All Things of Nature from TAC. The cardstock/paper is Pocket Full of Posies (DCWV), Chiffon (Bazzill) and White. I used Diamond Stickles on the wines, and I also used Prismacolor Pencils blended with Gamsol to color the image.

I’m off to make another Titmouse card, this time I’m going to try to make it the same color as it is IRL!

Pet Food Recall

Menu Foods, a major manufacturer of dog and cat food, has announced a recall of several very popular pet foods after reports of kidney failure and death. While the exact cause has yet to be determined, consumers are urged to check their pet food supply for affected brands. http://www.menufoods.com/recall

Associated Press UNION, N.J. - Pet owners were worried Saturday that the pet food in their cupboards could be deadly after millions of containers of dog and cat food sold at major retailers across North America were recalled.

Menu Foods, the Ontario-based company that produced the pet food, said Saturday it was recalling dog food sold under 48 brands and cat food sold under 40 brands including Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba. The food was distributed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico by major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kroger and Safeway.

An unknown number of cats and dogs had suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, the company said.

Meanwhile, two other companies — Nestle Purina PetCare Co. and Hill’s Pet Nutrition Inc. — announced Saturday night that as a precaution they were voluntary recalling some products made by Menu Foods.

Many stores that sold the affected brands frantically pulled packages off shelves.

At a Petsmart store in Union, Silviene Grzybowski became worried when the four types of Iams products she buys for her cat, Smokey, had vanished from shelves. The cat was very sick and had not been eating for days, she said.

“The vet told us to buy her her favorite food, but I’m going to call the vet right now,” Grzybowski said, looking at an announcement Petsmart had taped to shelves announcing the recall.

Pet owners spot symptomsRon Finegold of Boynton Beach, Fla., said he noticed about a week or so ago that his family’s 3-year-old cat — who was regularly fed a variety of Iams cat food — had stopped eating and did not appear well. He quickly took the animal to the veterinarian, who determined she was in renal failure.

He said he heard about the recall on the radio Friday night. He checked his trash, and found out he had given the cat some of the affected food.

“That’s when I realized (the illness) had to be related,” Finegold said. “She won’t be eating that stuff anymore.”

A complete list of the recalled products along with product codes, descriptions and production dates was available from the Menu Foods Web site, http://www.menufoods.com/recall. The company also designated two phone numbers that pet owners could call for information — (866) 463-6738 and (866) 895-2708 — but callers kept the lines busy for much of Saturday.

Menu Foods’ chief executive and president Paul Henderson told the Associated Press on Friday that the company was still trying to figure out what happened.

He said that the company had received an undisclosed number of owner complaints that dogs and cats were vomiting and suffering kidney failure after eating its products. He estimated that the recall would cost the company, which is mostly owned by the Menu Foods Income Fund, an estimated $26 million to $34 million.

Some Puddle Fun

It was another emotional day for me. I had to go pick up Sam at her Vets office, we had her cremated. As soon as the receptionist handed me Sam’s urn the tears started all over again. Bryan came home from work early just to be with me, he’s the best. I’m glad to have Sam back home again. All the crying left me with a massive headache today, but I do want to share this Happy Hoppers (HH) card.

I also received another order of Happy Hoppers in the mail today. Maybe this weekend in-between baseball & softball I can get them inked up and get some cards made. Dick from HM Stamps started a website gallery for us to display our Happy Hoppers cards. Take a peek inside the Happy Hoppers Gallery, or better yet you can submit a HH card to share.

For this HH I used the stamp Puddle Fun. I’m loving my new Retro Prints DCWV pattern paper (and I'm not really a retro kind of gal) I also used it for the umbrella (Paper Piecing). The cardstock is Apricot, Peach & Leapfrog from Bazzill and TAC Brown. The brads are also from Bazzill, Peach Puff. I used Sakura Stardust Gelly pen on the puddle and raindrops. I also added a little piece of cotton to the bunny’s tail.

Thanks for peeking in an have a wonderful weekend ~

Creative Genius

I’m so not a Creative Genius…especially when it comes to coloring an image with markers. I have no problem using markers for a flower stem, anything wider than that is tough… lol. I attempted to color this image in with markers and I embarrassed to tell you that I actually cut, stamped, and colored 5 times. Each time I was really disappointed with the way it looked, then I pulled out the Prismacolor Pencils… sheesh how could get by without those?

I made this card for ABS Sketch Challenge, Sketch #61. The image is from TAC, Creative Genius. The patterned paper is from DCWV, Retro Prints. I picked up Retro Prints at Hobby Lobby, I was there to shop for picture frames… and ended up coming home with some extra goodies. The cardstock is Bazzill (Canvas, Leapfrog & Apricot) & DCWV (Blue 3).

Sketch #62 was posted this morning at ASB, I can’t wait to give that one a try. Have a great day ~

Thank you Keri

I just wanted to share this beautiful Sympathy card that a special friend Keri Sereika made for me. The card is even more beautiful IRL. Underneath the vellum sentiment is a layer of embossed flowers that are highlighted with chalk. The card is so elegant and delicate.

Keri thanks for thinking of me, I appreciate your kindness and friendship.

Need a Watermark?

There’s been lots of talk recently over at SCS about protecting your images by using watermarks. Many ladies had some of their images taken and posted elsewhere without their consent and some didn’t receive credit for their original artwork.

Last month I spent a few hours learning how to create a transparency watermark using Paint Shop Pro X…(thank you Joann). I was able to make a one layer watermark, after that I didn’t want to venture into two layers! That’s when I found Dina Kowal. Dina had a post on her blog, Mama Dini’s Stamperia, that she sells watermarks.

If you’re interested in getting a watermark to protect your images, I highly recommend Dina. She had my watermarks ready to view by the next day, and her prices can’t be beat (only $.75 per element). You can check out some of her designs & prices here: Need a Watermark? These are some of the watermarks that Dina made for me… thank you Dina.

House Mouse & Happy Hoppers

Here are a couple cards that I wanted to share. The first one is Beary Good Friends. I made this card for Dick and his lovely wife Patti from HM Stamps. The stamp is Beary Good Friends (Stampablilites, House Mouse) and the Swirl Background stamp is from TAC. All the patterned paper and cardstock is from CTMH, the patterned paper is from the More to Adore paper pack.

The second card I made was for A Shade of Blue’s (ASB) Sketch Challenge #60. The stamp is Great Catch from the new Stampabilities Happy Hoppers line… since baseball and softball is a big deal in our house, this stamp was a must have. All cardstock and patterned paper is from CTMH, the patterned paper is from Rustic Trails paper pack.

Can we keep her?

My plan today was to play hooky from cleaning house and get out and enjoy the great weather we’re having here in Colorado Springs. That didn’t really work out… look what followed me home from school this morning. Isn’t she adorable? Okay she didn’t really follow me home… I found her on the path near the school. Since I had my cell phone with me I called the number on her tags, the AKC Pet Locator couldn’t get in contact with the owner… so I brought her home and waited for the owners to call me. The owners just came for her and apparently she’s an escape artist. Jake had a wonderful time playing with Micky D!

Thank You

I just want to say thank you to all of you who left comments about Sam’s passing… it’s been really hard adjusting to life without her and I really appreciate you taking time to leave a comment. I wanted to share a couple more pictures of Sam playing with our other dog Jake. Jake isn’t adjusting very well either... we’ve been taking him on longer walks, playing kick-ball more, he’s getting a lot of extra hugs and treats. It’ll get better with time…

I made this card last week for a SCS Sketch Challenge, Sketch #112. I kind of forgot that I made it until I found in under some papers when I was putting my stamp area back together. The stamp set is Dog Walkers from TAC all cardstock and pattern paper is also from TAC.

Sad weekend

It was an emotionally sad weekend for us, our dog Sam passed away Friday. She lived an active and comfortable 13 ½ years. Sam was the best ever, we love her and miss her terribly.

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Balloon Journey

Do you believe that I only got one Happy Hopper card made this week? I thought I would have them all inked by now! After I stamped Balloon Journey, I wasn’t really sure what color I wanted to make the bunny. I definitely didn’t want to make him the same that I do House Mouse cards. After experimenting with my Prismacolor Pencils I colored the bunny Pink, Beige, Light Umber and a bit of Chocolate. I used Pocket Full of Posies patterned paper from DCWV (which is on sale this week at JoAnn’s) and Bashful Blue cardstock. I added a piece of cotton to the bunny’s tale, Diamond Stickles to the balloons and a Karen Foster Princess Brad from TAC.

Yesterday, I was out shopping again with my sister, we enable each other! We went to Target so I can buy a mop… I wasn’t really sure what kind to get. I’ve always washed the floors on my hands and knees. Since I’ve been having knee problems for the past few years, I thought it was time to start using a one. I made my mop selection... went around the isle... and there it was… the Black Trestle Desk

I had to have it for my stamping area. I’ve seen this desk at Target.com in the past and it’s just been recently they starting selling it at our local Target. Bryan and I assembled it last night, which lead to moving and organizing my stamp area. I’m still not finished putting things back, hopefully I can get it finished sometime today.
