April Buddy Read

This month I’m participating in Julie’s, Pages & Pens, buddy read.  Every month members of the Facebook Group, Buddy Read with Me, vote on a book to read.  Julie has set up a thread for all to discuss the book and without giving away any spoilers there is an arrangement for commenting.  It's really a month long read-along and you can read at your own pace and discuss the book all month long.  At the end of the month (29th of April) there will be a live You Tube show, where we can comment and chat about the book.

This month we will reading Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.  I’m eager to read this and the second book, A Torch Against the Night.  Which I believe both books have been on my shelf for a few months, at least.  Book three in the series is expect in 2018 and apparently Paramount Pictures has acquired film rights for Ember in the Ashes, something to look forward to.

Ember in the Ashes
by Sabaa Tahir

Laia is a slave.

Elias is a soldier.

Neither is free.

Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.

It is in this brutal world, inspired by ancient Rome, that Laia lives with her grandparents and older brother. The family ekes out an existence in the Empire’s impoverished backstreets. They do not challenge the Empire. They’ve seen what happens to those who do.

But when Laia’s brother is arrested for treason, Laia is forced to make a decision. In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empire’s greatest military academy.

There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined—and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.

If you’re interested it’s not too late to join in the fun and read along with the group.  Thanks for visiting.
