Day 2

Destination: Delta, CO
193 Miles

As we left Pagosa Springs hot air balloons were floating across the clear blue sky. It was a cool morning which left dew on our motorcycles. We headed west to Durango (via US 160) and stopped in over at Durango Harley-Davidson, after all, we had to purchase our souvenir shirts from each Harley Davidson store along our route. We didn’t stay long – 3 more passes to tackle yet!

We then headed North on the San Juan Skyway (US 550) a.k.a. the Million Dollar Highway… which I read could possibly be one of the top ten motorcycle roads in the US… it was my third favorite route from our trip! The views are STUNNING, but the road from Silverton to Ouray is back and forth through tight, narrow switchbacks with no guardrails and steep drop offs… combined with tourist traffic, ugh! It was difficult to enjoy the view and the road at the same time. We stopped in Ouray for lunch and took some Post Office photos (the MSR Going Postal Contest).

Outside Ouray US 550 is straight and flat which brought us into Montrose for more souvenirs at Black Canyon Harley Davidson. While in Montrose we came across Jovis Coffee… darn it… I should have stopped for a cup coffee and a picture, but instead we kept motoring into the town of Delta for night number two.
